How to use a menstrual cup: How to fold it

Menstrual cups are reusable sanitary products that are inserted into the vagina. Because they collect menstrual blood inside the vagina, they offer a number of benefits, such as reducing stuffiness and odor, allowing you to enjoy hot springs and saunas even during your period, and being environmentally friendly and wallet-friendly because they can be used for a long period of time. As a result, the number of types has increased recently, and they are now available at drugstores and in the media, so you may be hearing and seeing them more often than before.
However, we often hear from women that they don't really understand menstrual cups and want to try them but can't take the plunge.

The murmo online store blog will provide a variety of information about menstrual cups for those who are interested in them but are hesitant to take the plunge, so we hope you will read any articles that interest you.

This time, we will introduce how to fold a menstrual cup, as recommended by Murmo, as a way to use it.

How to use a menstrual cup: How to fold it

A menstrual cup is folded and placed in the vagina in a thin state, then opened up. The recommended folding methods for murmo menstrual cups are the "C-fold" and "labia-fold," which use murmo's easy lines (vertical grooves).

1. C-fold

This folding method creates a C-shape when folded. It's the easiest and most conventional method and can be used with any menstrual cup.
If you are trying out a menstrual cup for the first time, we recommend you try this folding method first.

The advantages of the C-fold

Easy to fold

Easy to hold on to

I'll show you how to fold it later, but it's easy to fold as it simply folds in half. It also has the advantage of being easier to hold on to since there is less resilience than folding it multiple times.

The downside of the C-fold

・Even when folded, it is a little thick, so it may be difficult to insert

It may be difficult to open

Because it is simply folded in half, the tip that is inserted into the vagina first is wider than with other folding methods. Therefore, this method of insertion is not suitable for those with a narrow vaginal opening.
Additionally, once inserted into the vagina, the cup does not open easily due to its low resilience, and depending on the size and shape of the vagina and the strength of vaginal pressure, it may be difficult to open automatically.

How to fold

1. Hold the cup in your dominant hand (front, groove facing you)

2. Place your index finger along the groove and fold it in half so that the groove becomes a valley.

3. Remove your fingers from the grooves and keep it folded.

4. Once you can hold the bifold in one hand, it's done.

If you have weak grip strength or small hands, it may be difficult to fold it with one hand. In that case, please use both hands to fold it.
This is also explained in this video , so please take a look.

2. Labia fold

This fold allows you to make the tip that goes into the vagina thinner than a C-fold. It's a slightly more complicated fold, so it's a little more difficult than a C-fold until you get used to it, but if you use Murmo's Easy Line, it's also an easy fold even for those with weak grip strength. If you find the tip of a C-fold too big to insert, we recommend trying this next.

The good thing about labia folds

・Folds thinner than a C-fold

・It may be easier to open than a C-fold

Its thin, foldable tip makes it easy to insert for those with a narrow vaginal opening. Also, because it has many folded layers, it has a strong resilience and opens easily when inserted into the vagina.

The bad side of labia folds

- It's a little difficult to fold

It takes strength to keep gripping

It may be difficult to fold for those with weak grip strength or small hands. Also, because there are many folded layers, it has a strong resilience and tends to open easily, so it may be a little difficult to keep it folded.

You may be able to do it once you get used to it, so we hope you will give it a try when you have time.

How to fold

1. Hold the cup in your dominant hand

2. Grasp the easy line (vertical groove) toward your dominant hand and make a mountain fold along the easy line.

3. Lightly press the other side and fold the mountain fold inward.

4. Once folded, grab it and it's done

When you look at the folded cross section, it looks like an eye.
Please take a look at this video, which also explains it.

We also explain how to store the bag after folding it in the blog below, so please take a look at that as well.
How to Use a Menstrual Cup: How to Insert It

In addition to the folding methods introduced here, there are many other folding methods, such as the seven-fold and punch-down fold. However, considering that the cup tends to open easily after insertion, we recommend the C-fold or labia fold introduced here for the murmo menstrual cup. If you have discovered a folding method other than the ones introduced here that worked well for you, or a trick you know of, we'd be very grateful if you could share it with us via DM on murmo's Instagram ( @ourmurmo ) or chat on LINE ( https://lin.ee/vUwl6vs ). We hope that menstrual cups will make your period more comfortable for as many people as possible.
